Locket Castle
Ceska republika, Loket, 357 33
Description:
Loket Fortress is one of the oldest in the Czech Republic. And, although no one will say the exact date of the beginning of construction, we can safely say that the former residence of kings and the masterpiece of the Middle Ages is more than eight hundred years old.
The name Loket comes from the word "elbow". The fact is that the bend of the Ogre river, on which the castle stands, has the shape of a bent human hand. During its history, the castle had many functions - it was a border outpost, administrative center, and even a prison.
Since 1968, Locket Castle has been a national monument. Anyone can wander through the cold stone dungeons of the castle, check the veracity of many legends, try themselves as a prisoner of a prison, as well as witness a staged public execution.
