Besac Fortress
Description:
The fortress of Besats is one of the oldest military fortifications preserved on the territory of modern Montenegro. It was built during the Ottoman Empire in the second half of the XV century, however, some of the towers behind the fortress wall trace their history back to the medieval state of Zeta. In ancient times, the fortress delimited Slavic and Turkish territory, so today it is a significant historical value not only for Montenegro, but also for the entire Balkan region.
Location: The fortress is located near Skadar Lake on a small hill lying near the village of Virpazar in the municipality of Bara.
