Budva

Old Budva and Budva Riviera

Description:

I will tell you the extraordinary story of the founding of the city, through which many conquerors passed and each of them changed the boundaries and appearance of Budva. Here left their mark Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Venetians. The main attraction of Budva is the Old Town, founded more than 2500 years ago, where we will go.

During our tour you will get acquainted with the two oldest Catholic churches of the old city - the Catholic Church of St. Mary in Punta, founded in 840, and the Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist founded in the VII century (the church has a unique icon of the Budva Mother).

You will learn the history of two Orthodox churches, the functioning Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity built in 1804 and the Church of St. Sava of the XII century.

For an additional fee, you can visit the Archaeological Museum. Here you will see objects of Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Slavic cultures: gold coins and jewelry, glassware and ceramic vases found within the old city.

In the fortress itself preserved watchtowers, bastions and barracks, built during the reign of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1836. Within the walls of the Citadel there is a valuable collection of books and maps dedicated to the Balkans. There is also a small Maritime Museum, which presents models of medieval ships.

Then we go to the women’s monastery Rustovo, on the territory of which there is the only Church of the Royal Martyrs of the Romanovs in Montenegro. Also admire the panorama of the island of St. Stephen and the royal beaches. We will stop at a panoramic platform, which offers a magnificent view of the island of St. Stephen and at the end of our journey we will go down to the island itself.
