Visiting Emir Kusturica - Mokra Gora (Serbia)

Description:

Mokra Hora is an amazingly beautiful corner of the Balkan Peninsula. Only true connoisseurs of Serbia and fans of the famous director Kusturica know about him. You can get to Mokra Gora from the coast, but the way there is not easy, since the road runs along the mountain serpentine, but views of the deltas of the Moraca and Tara rivers can brighten up the difficulties of the way. To overcome this path is worth for the so-called Kustendorf.

Kustendorf means the village of Emir Kusturica. No, he wasn't born there. He made it himself. This is a real village of art, there is a cinema, several hotels with affordable prices, for example, "Mechavnik", a swimming pool and several restaurants. Every winter there is an international film festival, also established by Kusturica. Even the streets and squares here bear the imprint of cinema – they are named after great artists, for example, there is a square Federico Fellini. In addition, they themselves became famous on film - here Kusturica was filmed the film "Life as a miracle."

You will also drive along the unique narrow-gauge railway "Shargan Osmitz".

It is known for its exceptional technical solutions. The width of the track is 75 cm, it passes almost along steep cliffs and if you look down on it, you can see that this railway looks like the number 8.

The route was first commissioned in 1925. Decommissioned in 1974 due to low profitability. But in 1999 restoration work began from Vitasi station (Kremna) to Mokra Gora station. The partially restored railway track is used for tourist purposes. Every day, 3-4 trains pass along the Serbian part, bypassing 5 bridges and 22 tunnels on their way, overcoming the difference in height of 300 meters. From time to time, the train stops so that tourists can capture the beauty of the mountains and valleys.

Trains are operated only in the summer!

Today "Shargan Osmitz" is an operating museum, tourist and architectural complex.
