Mount Lovcen

Show me on the map

Description:

Among the rocks and stones of the Lovcen National Park, life boils. On the slopes of the mountain range there are more than a thousand species of flowers and trees, between which, in turn, many animals live: foxes, martens, wild cats, hares and even wild boars. Here you can count more than two hundred species of birds - from variegated swarms to impressive eagles. But it is not only nature that is remarkable this national park.

On one of the two peaks of the mountain Lovcen found reassurance the greatest ruler of Montenegro – Petr Njegos, who during his lifetime fell so in love with the place from which he could view his entire beautiful country that he bequeathed it there and buried it.

The last will of the leader was fulfilled, and at an altitude of 1660 m above sea level, the church-tomb was built first, and then, under socialist rule, the Mausoleum.

Getting to the Mausoleum on the top of the mountain is not easy: you need to overcome, almost 461 steps. But the result is worth it: from the observation deck in sunny weather you can see not only the whole of Montenegro, but even Italy on the other side of the Adriatic Sea!
