Ostrog Monastery
Description:
Orthodoxy is the main religion of Montenegro, and one of the most significant Orthodox shrines is the Ostrog Monastery, founded in the 17th century. The monastery is located in the mountains, at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level. From the nearest city of Danilovgrad, it is separated by some 15 km, but part of the way runs along the mountain serpentine, where the road is so winding and narrow that only by a miracle passenger cars travel on it.
The monastery itself consists of two parts - lower and upper. Each has its own relics. For the lower part consisting of cells and the church of St. The Trinity is the relics of the lad Stanko, who did not let the Holy Cross out of his hands even before the threat of their being cut off by the bloodthirsty Turks. In the upper part of the monastery leads a rocky road through the forest, and it makes sense to walk along it without haste - it is amazingly picturesque.
The upper part of the monastery, which supposedly grows from a sheer slope of the rock, consists of the Exaltation of the Cross and the Church of the Virgin Mary. The buildings you see today are the ones that had to be rebuilt after the 1923 fire.
The monastery gained fame and fame in the XVII century: Bishop Basil spent his last 15 years of life there. During the Ottoman persecutions, it was a stronghold of Orthodoxy, strengthening people in the Christian faith. It is said that the power of his prayers was such that it gave healing from the most terrible diseases. His relics are now kept in Ostrog as a miraculous relic.
According to legend, a lot of amazing things happened in the Montenegrin monastery of Ostrog, and local monks willingly tell about it. But it is not only for miraculous healings that you should go here. It is worth climbing a narrow ladder to a small observation deck to freeze, seeing the stunning beauty and grandeur of the panorama that opens to the eye. And this beauty may also be one of the local wonders.
