Black Lake

Montenegro, Durmitor National Park

Description:

Black Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Durmitor National Park. It is located a few minutes walk from the town of Zabljak, at Bear Peak.

In fact, these are two small lakes connected by a small canal. This channel is so shallow that it dries up in the summer, and two independent reservoirs are obtained. The length of the large lake is about 855 m, the width is about 615 m. Its deepest place is about 24 meters. The small lake is smaller in area (about 600 m in length and 400 m in width), but deeper than the Big almost twice (about 49 meters), which makes it more roomy and voluminous compared to the Big. If you think about going around the whole lake – you have to take a walk about 3.5 km long, it will take you about an hour.

It is the largest of the 18 glacial lakes in Montenegro. It is formed from many streams that fill it in the spring during the melting of glaciers. The most famous of the streams of Mlen stream (Mill stream). Unlike all others, it is constant and more abundant.

It is best to admire the lake early in the morning, when there are still few people and it has pristine natural beauty. At this time, its surface is so smooth that you can see your reflection in it as in a mirror. Sunlight at this time is so soft and diffuse that you will get just perfect photos.

Walking around the Black Lake is unforgettable. The magic of this place leaves deep impressions that call here again and again. The approach to the lake is guarded, and to get here, you will have to pay about 2 euros.
