Дурмитор

Durmitor National Park

Description:

The pearl of the natural heritage of Montenegro is the Durmitor National Park. The best time to visit this place is almost all year, because in winter this place hosts skiers.

One version of the origin of the name of this national park is that in ancient Celtic dru-mi-ton means "water running from the mountains." And indeed, there are many beautiful mountain rivers, the most famous of which are Sushica, Draga, Komarnitsa and, of course, Tara. They flow through magnificent mountain canyons. Tara is the longest river in Montenegro and possibly the main attraction of Durmitor. Tara Canyon is the second largest after the famous American Grand Canyon. There are about 40 amazingly beautiful waterfalls, and the crystal clear water of the river reflects the amazing Montenegrin landscapes. In addition to Tara, in the national park you need to see the Black Lake, located near the town of Zabljak.

In addition to the amazing nature in Durmitor you can see historical sights. On the territory of the park there are Orthodox monasteries of Archangel Michael, Dovolya, Dobrilovina, as well as ancient Roman burials.
