Church of Archangel Michael
square of Duke Stefan (Belavist), Herceg Novi, Montenegro
Description:
The small church of Archangel Michael is the pride of the small town of Herceg Novi. It began construction in 1883, the work was completed in 1911, at the same time it was consecrated. Now it is considered the main Orthodox temple of the city.
A small cozy temple originally fused in its appearance several styles: you can distinguish between Romanesque Gothic, and the influence of Byzantine and Islamic styles. But all the details of such a colorful heritage harmoniously coexist with each other, creating a captivating image of this church.
Inside the temple is decorated with a magnificent marble iconostasis. Also inside are valuable icons of the hand of the famous Czech artist Sigler.
The church fits very well into the ensemble of the square.
