Blood Tower

I Bokeš ke Brigade, Herceg Novi, Montenegro

Description:

Kanli Kula is a fortress tower built by the Turks during the Ottoman rule in Montenegro, Herceg Novi. There is no exact date of its construction, but it is known that this building was built in the XVI century. The location of the tower allowed it to be used as a reliable fortress, defending the city from the enemy from the sea. From the observation deck of the fortress, a panorama opens, in which the sea is visible as in the palm of your hand.

However, as a fortress, the tower was used for a short time, and quickly turned into a prison and a torture chamber. The second name of the tower is Bloody Tower.

Modern Kanli-Kula is first of all a beautiful observation deck, from which you can admire the seascapes and the front of the coast, which captures the part of the city.

In 1966, a summer stage and an amphitheater with more than 1,000 seats were built on the territory of the tower. Today, many cultural events, theater productions, concerts, etc. are held on the territory of Kanli Kula Tower. It is one of the most beautiful summer scenes and outdoor theatre venues in Europe.

Inspection of the tower is paid and will cost you 1 euro per person.
