Moraca River Canyon

Kolasin, Montenegro

Description:

The Moraca River Canyon is a beautiful place in Montenegro, where a road cut through the rocks winds along the riverbed. At some intervals, it rises quite high and passes through numerous tunnels, and sheer cliffs close access to sunlight.

When moving north, the caps of mountain peaks appear on the horizon, covered with snow. On the other side of the river high in the mountains is a single-track railway lined through many bridges and 130 tunnels. It connects the Montenegrin coast with Belgrade via Podgorica.

The canyon is considered the second deepest in the world. The height of some of its rocks reaches about 1200 meters. Its size is much inferior to the canyon Fish River, located in Namibia. Further, after leaving the river canyon, the road keeps the path along the riverbed Tara.

You can get here by car or bus on the way from Podgorica to Kolasin, and you can also come by train, which runs according to the established schedule.
