Description:

Biogradskaya mountain is a huge area occupying 54 square kilometers on the spurs of the Bielasica mountain range. The largest reserve in Montenegro has the status of a pan-European reserve. The uniqueness of these lands was recognized in 1878, when they were presented to the ruler of Montenegro Prince Nikola Petrovich after liberation from the Turks and were declared a princely reserve (Knjazev zabran).

The official title of the national park was given to this territory much later, in 1952. The incredible richness of untouched nature - virgin relict forest, mountain rivers bubbling in the pits, snow-white mountain peaks, the highest of which is Mount Crna-Glava, with a height of 2139 m, fantastically beautiful mountain lakes - all this amazes and delights everyone who is not indifferent to the beauty and grandeur of nature.

Biogradskoye Lake is the most beautiful and largest in the park. In addition to it, on the area of the reserve there are lakes Pesica, Big and Small Ursulovatsky, Big and Small Sisky. The lake is especially spectacular in the time of bright autumn, when the bright multicolored foliage on the mountain slopes shades the blue of the water surface.

The largest river flowing through the territory of the reserve is Biogradskaya, which has a source at the top of the Bjelasica mountain. It is more than 8 km long and flows into Lake Biogradskoye. The park has many hiking trails leading to the most secluded corners, where you can observe the fabulous diversity of local flora and fauna.

As cultural monuments, the Orthodox Monastery of Moraca (13th century) located on the territory of the reserve with a unique exhibition of icons and frescoes and the Monastery of St. George (16th century), in whose walls the Myroslavlev Gospel, one of the Orthodox world shrines, was born. Fans of active winter recreation will appreciate the ski resort "Bjelasica", located near the national park.
