St. Luke's Church
Description:
The oldest church in Montenegro is the Church of St. Luke. The church was built in the XII century, the construction was dominated by elements of Romanesque and Byzantine architecture. You can see this amazing church in the heart of Kotor. The temple appeared thanks to the efforts of Prince Maura Katsefaranga in 1157, at first it was a purely Catholic temple. But, during the Turkish invasion, many Orthodox people took refuge in Kotor and in the Church of St. Luke. Since then, two altars have appeared in the church - Orthodox and Catholic. The temple is currently Orthodox.
The temple is unique in that it has preserved elements of frescoes of the XII century. Almost constantly the church is closed, it is opened only during large services and during the tourist season. There are excursions for tourists.
