Church of St. Nicholas
Ulica 1 (istok-zapad), Kotor, Montenegro
Description:
The Church of St. Nicholas was built in 1890 on the site where in the XV century the Orthodox monastery of St. Archangel was located, a little west of the Old Town of Ulcinj.
The main attraction of the Church of St. Nicholas is a unique iconostasis and wall paintings (dated 1908), made by Russian icon painters. The biggest shrine was the list from the icon of the Most Holy Mother of God “Troyeruchitsa”, which Montenegrins and their ancestors – the Serbs – venerate especially.
The construction of the church of St. Nicholas began in 1902, and the church was completed in 1909, as evidenced by the inscription on the facade.
The church is a one-nave structure, the main facade is framed by two towers. The peculiarity of the architecture of the temple gives the impression that the inside of the building is much larger than the outside.
