Franciscan Church of St. Clara

Montenegro, Kotor

Description:

Kotor is a city of churches, and the earliest appeared almost in the XII century. Another famous church in Kotor is the Church of St. Clara. It was built in the XVIII century. The church appeared where once there was a Franciscan monastery, and even before Benedictine. The temple is distinguished by a luxurious altar made of marble and decorated with multi-colored stone in contrast to the rather modest ascetic appearance. The altar is Baroque. The creator of the altar is the Italian master Francesco Cabiana. Also in the temple is a very rich sacristy, where you can see ancient objects, unique works of art.

It is assumed that this poverty of the facade was not created intentionally, but was the result of many reconstructions and reconstructions to which the church was subjected many times. It is believed that earlier the exterior facade was richer and looked much more impressive.
