Kotor is an ancient city in Montenegro, which is the administrative center of the Kotor municipality. It is located on the shore of the Kotor Bay of the Adriatic Sea. In this city there are three pairs of city gates: Sea Gate, Gurdić Gate and River Gate.
The Gurdić Gate is located on the south side. From the road they are separated by a drawbridge, which is located above the neck of the cave. When rainy autumn days come, fresh water bursting from the cave outside, pushes sea water away from the walls. On summer days, on the contrary, the flow of fresh water is depleted, and the water near the walls becomes salty again. The southern gates are part of fortifications, the total length of which is about 4.5 kilometers, with a height of 20 meters and a width of 16.
