Natural Monument-Reserve of Salar de Surire
Description:
The Salar de Surire Natural Monument (or Salt Lake Surire) is a natural monument located in the Arica y Parinacota region and Parinacota province in Chile. It consists mainly of a salt plateau and many small salt lakes. Several species of wild Andean flora and fauna are protected here. In the north is the volcano Arinthica.
The protected area, along with Lauca National Park and Las Vicuñas National Reserve, constitutes the Lauca World Biosphere Reserve.
Salar de Surire is also one of the wetlands protected by the Ramsar Agreement signed in 1971.
