Gualjatiri volcano
Lauca National Park, Putre, Arica y Parinacota, Chile
Description:
The volcano is located in the northern part of Chile, in the region of Arica y Parinacota, almost on the border with Bolivia and is one of the most active stratovolcanoes in South America. Its height is 6071 meters, its top looks like a dome consisting of lava. Large flows of frozen lava are located on the lower northern and western slopes.
Pure mountain air, clear water of lakes and extraordinary wildlife, in the middle of a lush grass that covers the mountain plains at an altitude of 2500 meters, amazes travelers with its colors and is an indispensable component of this fabulous place. Currently, due to active winds blowing from the south, the active volcanic activity of Gualjatiri has partially stopped. Thanks to this, the ascent of the volcano was greatly simplified. But here it is necessary to make a warning that in order to climb to the top of the volcano, as many rock climbers do - daredevils, you should prepare well.
