“Kolchagua” means “valley of small lakes” in the Native American language. Originally, there lived the warlike tribes of the Mapuche Indians – the Chiquillanes tribes, in the surviving Spanish chronicles they are described as the smallest, but most militant of the Mapuche tribes that lived in Chile at that time. The Chiquillanes were usually clothed in guanaco skins, they were later subjugated by the Incas and the southern border of their empire passed through this valley.
The pre-Hispanic irrigation system was created here by the Incas, who were also the first to engage in agriculture in the valley.
At the moment, the Colchagua Valley is considered one of the best for the production of red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Carmener, which is the emblematic wine of the country.
