Labor Day (Labor Day)

Description:

May Day was first celebrated as a holiday in 1890.
The history of May Day is connected with the events of May 1, 1886, when Chicago workers organized a strike demanding an 8-hour working day, as well as a demonstration that ended in a bloody clash with the police.

In 1889, the Paris Congress of the 2nd International decided to recognize May 1 as International Workers’ Solidarity Day and to hold annual demonstrations to commemorate the Chicago events.

For the first time May Day as a holiday was celebrated in 1890 in Austria-Hungary, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, USA, France, Italy, Sweden and some other countries.

Since then, May 1 has been celebrated as the Day of International Solidarity for Workers of All Countries. On this day there are parades and festivities. But whatever tradition is associated with May 1st, for most Danes it is just a spring holiday. A celebration of love, renewal and expectation of the best.
