Northern Zealand Castles – 3 Royal Castles in 1 Day

Description:

Of course, one of the most striking in Scandinavia are three castles - Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerode, the royal residence of Fredensborg and Hamlet Kronborg Castle in Elsinore. They are located nearby, so you can visit all three residences in one day.

Our first stop is Fredericksborg. Luxury castle in the style of the Dutch Renaissance on the shore of a picturesque lake. The palace park is impressive: wide alleys disperse from the palace in rays and are lost somewhere in the distance among dense crowns. Beautiful nature, swans swimming in the lake, secluded corners in a beautiful well-groomed park - all this will not leave you indifferent.

Fredensborg Castle is the current royal residence. It is a baroque castle built by the best Danish architects of its time with an absolutely stunning palace park, greenhouse, rosarium and Norwegian valley. In spring and autumn, the royal family lives here.

The third castle is Kronborg Castle, known as Hamlet Castle. I’m sure the name of Kronborg Castle in Elsinor should make you feel a heartbeat: it’s the same castle that Shakespeare described in Hamlet! Crowds of tourists "besiege the walls" of Kronborg, where people believe the spirit of the Danish prince's father still comes at midnight. Elsinore was once considered the capital of the Danish kingdom; the city is located in the narrowest point of the Oresund Strait, only 4 km. from Sweden. We will talk about the history of the city and how the ingenious way was invented to replenish the Danish treasury, how the fortress turned into a luxurious Renaissance castle and how Shakespeare ensured the city of Elsinore not only great fame, but also prosperity.

It is not easy to understand why only Kronborg Castle was included in the UNESCO list - in Denmark there are castles no worse. PR, I must admit, a great thing! Especially when it comes to Shakespeare...
