Odense

"Visiting the fairy tale" Travel to the city-museum of Andersen.

Description:

In Odense there is a place where you can plunge into an old, old fairy tale.

The cobblestone pavement leads to the past, and the once poorest area of the city is diligently renovated, preserved and exhibited as a fragile old toy.

It is there that the little yellow house in which Andersen was born and which he describes in The Tale of My Life is located:

In 1805 in the city of Odense, in a poor room lived a young couple – a husband and wife, endlessly loved each other.

Despite the more than modest atmosphere, the house does not make a depressing impression. This is honest poverty, people lived hard, but tried to preserve dignity and love for each other.

Today, the Andersen Museum is part of the old town. Small, colorful houses with tiled roofs, some of which, in their original form, flower bushes under the windows, cobblestone pavement - everything looks completely gingerbread.

The house is adjoined by a large modern building, which houses the main exposition of the museum and visitors usually spend much more time there than they plan, fascinates everything: an exhibition about the era of the storyteller, interiors, paintings based on Andersen's fairy tales, impress the shelves with his books translated into different languages, where in the central showcase lie his "Tales", published in the besieged Leningrad.

With trepidation, visitors of the museum consider the personal belongings of the writer, keeping their stories. And here, in his homeland, the life and creative genius of the great storyteller become closer and clearer.

In front of the museum, in the open theater, performances are played out - scenes from popular fairy tales, and young spectators with their parents sit right on the grass. All this perfectly harmonizes with the surrounding panorama, because it is also an ordinary residential quarter, the inhabitants of which are no different from other citizens.

The city of Odense is very picturesque, on busy shopping streets and in inconspicuous courtyards you can find characters of popular fairy tales. For example, on the edge of the old quarter took his post "Persistent Tin Soldier", and in the center pedestrians bypass "Shepherd and Pipeclecleaner" and "Aircraft Chest".

Arriving in Odense by rail meets the three-headed giant of the work of the provocative Danish artist and sculptor Bjorn Norgård. The sculpture is called “Traveler, Narrator and Shadow” and, according to the author, should reflect the versatility of talent and the contradictory nature of the writer.

And this city, named after the supreme god of Scandinavian mythology - Odin, occupies a special place in the heart of every Dane.
