Roskilde

Viking City - Roskilde

Description:

The Viking city, Roskilde, today has three main attractions: a hundred thousandth rock festival, one of the largest in Europe, a museum of Viking ships and a cathedral listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.

Only the last two will get our attention.

The Museum of Viking Ships tells us about the brave warriors-merchants who plowed the sea expanses for two and a half centuries, horrifying and trembling European peoples. Even if you are indifferent to history, it is worth looking at the ships to appreciate their elegant shapes, in the simplicity and functionality of which there is a clear connection with the Scandinavian design of the twentieth century.

The massive Cathedral of St. Lucius, which is one of the first examples of brick Gothic, will tell the entire history of art over the past seven hundred years - from Gothic and Renaissance to classicism and modernism. You will also learn about funerals and funerals. The Danish monarchs preferred to live and decide the fate of the country in Copenhagen, but they went to Roskilde for eternal rest.

We start the tour from Roskilde railway station.
