New Year's Eve

Description:

Minaret in Cairo
It's the Hijra New Year. The first day of the holy month of Muharram. The 1st Mukhharama is not included in the number of Islamic holidays and, accordingly, in most Muslim countries, the New Year is not celebrated as a holiday in our understanding. On this day, mosques read a sermon dedicated to the transfer of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622 - the starting point of the Muslim lunar calendar.

The month of Muharram is the first month of the Muslim calendar. It is believed that as a person will spend the first month of the year, so will all the other twelve months.

This is one of the four months during which Allah specifically prohibited conflicts, blood feuds, wars, etc. Much is said about the veneration of this month in the Quran. Muharram is the month of repentance and worship.

Every Muslim should try to spend this month in the service of God. In one of the sayings of Muhammad, “Muharram is the best for fasting after the month of Ramadan.” Another dictum says: “Whoever fasts one day in the month of Muharram is rewarded as 30 fasts.”
