Safaga

Port of Safaga

Safaga, Egypt

Description:

This port in the south of the Red Sea is far from the sights of the Nile and Cairo, which serve other ports in Egypt; however, it is the only port in Egypt that gives visitors access to the ancient sights of Upper Egypt. Both Aswan and Luxor can take a day trip from Safaga.

Luxor is the city with the largest concentration of ancient Egyptian monuments in the country, nicknamed “the largest open-air museum in the world”.

The city of Aswan gives visitors access to the most amazing sights of Egypt’s ancient history, as well as the unique Nubian culture of southern Egypt.

The port is located on the west coast of the Red Sea. South of Hurghada and 225 nautical miles away.

Safaga as a seaport was founded in the 3rd century BC under the name Philotera. Currently, Safaga is a major center of medical tourism for international clients. Local tourism specializes mainly in scuba diving.

A trip to the city will cost about $4. A taxi to Hurghada costs about $40 one way. However, it is difficult to find a taxi.
