The first appearance of Valentine’s Day is associated with numerous legends, sometimes contradictory to each other. Common is the fact that this beautiful holiday originates in the ancient Roman Empire. Valentine, according to legend, was a Christian priest who lived in the city of Terni in the III century AD. He was a young man with a kind and responsive soul, fond of medicine and natural sciences.
At that time, the emperor issued a decree forbidding legionnaires to marry in the name of preserving the military spirit.
The young priest Valentine, despite the wrath of the emperor, did not cease to marry the legionnaires in love, but already in strict secrecy. According to legends, Valentine not only married lovers, but also reconciled quarreled couples, helped soldiers write love letters, gave loving couples flowers.
Over time, the secret became apparent by the end of 269 AD. Valentine was imprisoned and sentenced to death. According to legend, in the last days of his life, spent behind bars, Valentina fell in love with the daughter of the jailer. Since Valentine was a priest, he could not reciprocate the girl, on the last day of his life, February 13, he revealed his feelings to her in a touching letter.
A young Christian priest who had done so much good for lovers from the heart died in the name of that love. Therefore, it is not surprising that people not only did not forget about Valentine, but also called him the Guardian of Love and the Patron of all lovers.
Now this holiday Valentine’s Day is recognized almost all over the world. The main symbol of this holiday are “valentine cards” – anonymous cards in the shape of a heart with a declaration of love. The recipient must guess from whom he received a declaration of love.
In addition to "valentine" are welcome and other gifts on this day, but necessarily in the form of a heart. The eternal symbol of love and passion is red roses.
