Kuressaare

Mysterious Saaremaa

Description:

As part of our tour, we will visit the island of Saaremaa, part of the Monzund archipelago.

Saaremaa is the largest island in Estonia, visited by about 300,000 people during the summer. It is known for its unique nature and archaic churches, and a special magnet of attraction on the island was the Kaali meteorite crater, very convenient for viewing. Due to the mild marine climate, the flora and fauna of Saaremaa is very diverse. More than 200 species are protected here. Together with the Viidumäe Reserve and the Vilsandi National Park, there are about a hundred protected sites on the island: parks, high cliffs, glacial boulders and unique swamps. Juniper island thickets along with windmills and stone fences are a fairly common idea of this island. In the only city of the county - Kuressaare, formerly Arensburg - the most important tourist magnet is the bishop's castle of the 14th century, like which has not been preserved in any Baltic state. It hosts castle days and opera days every year. Legends tell of the islanders themselves. These are pranksters from whom it is difficult to achieve a serious conversation, and each guest must check this fact personally. This is what we will do with you...
