Vaalaste Falls

Kohtla, Ida-Virumaa

Description:

Vaalaste is the highest waterfall in Estonia and the Baltic states. Its average height is 30.5 meters, and the highest point is 56 meters. The waterfall especially impresses tourists with its beauty in early spring, during the melting of snow, and in winter, when it completely freezes, forming fabulous ice figures. In 1996, a commission of the Academy of Sciences declared the falls a natural heritage and a national symbol of Estonia.

Opposite the waterfall built a special observation platform for many tourists. There is also parking and information signs nearby. The double spiral staircase will help you down to the bottom of the clay, where you can see natural formations that are 80 million years old.
