Description:
In the Philippines - islands where in abundance of coconuts and bamboo, of course, there are strange things made of them. One of them is a bamboo organ in the church of San Jose.
The unconventional material from which a musical instrument is made gives it a special sound. It is difficult for a European to imagine how, for example, Bach’s music would sound on such an organ. But we can say for sure that this will be an authentic performance for the region. A small historical reference in the church says that the bamboo for the tool was cut in 1816, and the organ was built in 1821. It is believed to be the only bamboo organ in the world.
The instrument is in working condition and every February there is a festival of organ music, which attracts many fans.
