National Veterans Day in Finland
Description:
Finland's participation in World War II (1939-1945) is commonly referred to by Finnish historians as the Three Wars:
The first was the Winter War (1939-1940) against the USSR.
The second was “Continuation of the War” (1941-1944) against the Soviet Union on the side of Germany.
The third was the Lapland War (1944-1945) against Germany for the expulsion of its troops from Northern Finland.
This period includes the appearance in the Finnish calendar of such memorable dates as Memorial Day and National Veterans Day.
