St. Mary's Church
Description:
The stone medieval church of Vehkalahti, now known as the Church of St. Mary, was built in the XIV century and is the oldest building in Hamina. The facade was recreated in the neoclassical style in 1820 during the reconstruction of the church by the architect Carl Ludwig Engel. Of the numerous medieval wall paintings, only the Wedding Cross on the eastern facade remained. The church’s tiny museum features spiritual life dating back to the 1700s.
