Seurasaari Island – Museum of Wooden Architecture
Description:
The island is a beautiful protected park and is open for walking and recreation all year round. About 100 wooden buildings from 17-19 centuries from all over Finland were brought to the island-museum. The houses contain items of household utensils and peasant life, on which you can imagine the daily life and traditional occupations of the Finns. There are houses of well-to-do owners, a priest's house, outbuildings, saunas, water and windmills, insolation plants.
The oldest building is the wooden church of Karuna, built in 1686, a popular place for Finnish weddings. The island also hosts traditional Ivanovo Day celebrations with bonfires and festivities.
The tour of the island is pedestrian and takes 1.5-2 hours.
