Temppeliaukio Church
3, Lutherinkatu, 00100 Helsinki, Finland
Description:
It was designed and built by two architect brothers, Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen. The main feature of the church is that it is carved into the rock. However, the light in the room is quite enough due to the glass dome. The church is regularly used for various concerts due to its excellent acoustic properties. Acoustics are provided by actually untreated natural walls of rocks.
Another feature of Temppeliaukio church is the absence of bells. Bell ringing is simulated using loudspeakers located on the outer wall of the building. But the organ in the church is real - 43 pipes.
By the way, services here are conducted in Russian.
