Esplanade Park

Etelä esplanadi-Pohjoisesplanadi, 00170 Helsinki, Suomi

Description:

Esplanade Park is a favorite holiday destination for residents of the Finnish capital. People called him by the simple - "expa". The date of its creation refers to the beginning of the XIX century, when Helsinki was just beginning to expand.

The center of public life of the park can be called the restaurant "Capelli", built in 1867. Since then, the restaurant has been rebuilt many times. In the summer, there are daily performances, both musical and theatrical.

A real scandal played out in 1908, when a monument to the sea nymph was opened in the park to the general public. The naked girl so shocked the intelligent Finns that many demanded that the monument be demolished immediately. But despite the riot of the crowd, art took over, and today the sea nymph is one of the main decorations of the park.
