Torronsuo National Park
Description:
Torronsuo is a national park founded in Finland in 1990. It is located in the south of the country, 100 kilometers from the capital Helsinki. The area of Torronsuo is small: only 25,500 square kilometers. The Finnish government has decided to protect these pristine lands without waiting for their natural drainage. Especially majestic spectacle is Torronsuo from a bird's eye view. You can explore the territory from such a height with the help of a high observation tower in Kiliamo.
The basis of the park is riding swamps with a thick layer of turf. Moreover, as scientists found, here are the thickest layers of peat in Finland, up to 12 meters. Within Torronsuo, there are several species of butterflies. And the species of birds that live here, even more: ducks, loons, petrels, pheasants, storks, ibis and herons. This is not a complete list of the inhabitants here. Some species of birds and insects are typical of the northern regions of Finland, and in the south of the country they are found only within this park.
If you get to Torronsuo in the summer season, you can taste delicious forest berries - blueberries, cloudberries and cranberries. When exploring the park, you should not go off the paved paths, as you can easily fall into the swamp.
