Workplace museum
Kirstinkuja 4, Helsinki, Finland
About the company:
The museum is filled with the atmosphere of everyday life of the Finnish working class in the past. These are the first modest one-room dwellings built here for workers by the city authorities. The buildings are now a museum.
For modest parameters, the workers humorously called these apartments “stoves”. Today, in these ovens, the conditions in which workers lived at the beginning of the XX century are recreated. The exposition tells about the life of workers until the end of the 80s, when the last tenants living in apartments moved out.
Here you can see the furniture, furnishings, kitchen utensils and household supplies - everything was restored to reproduce the living conditions of workers. Those who wish can even go down to the cellar and see what the residents prepared for themselves food and bread. By the way, bread can be baked directly in the apartments, as it was done a hundred years ago, if you agree with the staff of the museum.
