Kayaani Art Museum
Linnankatu 14, 87100 Kajaani, FINLAND
About the company:
The Kayaani Art Museum opened in April 1993. The museum exposition is located in a former police station designed by architect Eino Pitkianen.
The two floors together provide about 300 m2 of wall space to house exhibits. The four well-lit exhibition spaces vary in size and shape, creating many options for displaying artwork. Each year, the Art Museum organizes about five temporary exhibitions of foreign and Finnish art. An interesting fact is that the old police camera is preserved in its original form and can also be used for displays.
When the museum opened in 1993, it took responsibility for the self-purchase of works of art. His collection includes 760 works by 100 different artists. The main emphasis is placed on the works of Finnish artists of the 80s-90s. Among them are the works of such masters as Juhana Blomstead, Karolus Enkel, Tapio Yunno and others. Over the past few years, the collection has been enriched mainly by donations for the development of art in the Kainuu region.
One of the main tasks of the museum is to present a wide audience of art education, as well as a comprehensive picture of art.
