Kohli National Park
Description:
Koli National Park is located in the municipalities of Joensuu, Lieksa and Kontiolahti, located in North Karelia, Eastern Finland, on the western shore of Lake Pielinen, covers 30 square kilometers. Founded in 1991, an unusually beautiful national park and a diverse center of winter tourism. Excellent tourist routes, ski slopes and a variety of services make this park a wonderful place.
The central part of the reserve is the hill of Ukko Koli, its height is 347 m and it is the highest point in Southern Finland, which offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area. At the top of the hill is the Sokos Hotel Koli, near it is the Ukko Heritage Center, which provides a detailed map of numerous routes.
Kohli National Park was divided into three different zones according to the main objectives of nature protection. Special attention should be paid to the national landscape and geology in the area, which covers the highest peaks of the park.
The climate in the national park is different from the climate in the surrounding area. Near the hills, Lake Pielinen warms its surroundings of the park, especially in autumn, and in summer the moisture raised from the lake condenses into fog and rain on the eastern slope of the hill. As you climb up the hills, the temperature drops.
The forests are dominated by birch, clearings, and steep cliffs. Therefore, in winter there are popular ski resorts. There are trails of different difficulty levels, including those designed for beginners and children, ski equipment rental points, a ski school, dog sledding, ice fishing, ski trips and snowshoe hikes are also offered.
