Monument to Alexander Stepanovich Popov
Description:
The monument was erected not far from the place of installation of the radio mast for communication with the battleship "General-Admiral Apraksin", which ran aground in the autumn of 1899 gada off the coast of the island of Holland, receiving holes. For the organization of rescue operations, communication with the battleship was necessary, laying an underwater cable was expensive (according to sources about 100,000 rubles - at that time very decent money). It was decided to use the invention of A.S. Popov - wireless telegraph. A 60-foot-high radio station was installed and on February 6, 1900, Holland responded to Kotke. Information was received that needed to be delivered for rescue and by spring the battleship was removed from the ground.
