Aeronautics Museum
About the company:
The Karhula Air Club of Kotki is located 16 km from the city center, on the territory of the airfield. The aerodrome is hidden in the forest, and the museum is located on its territory in a large iron green hangar.
Kyumi airfield was built during the war years (1942-43) for the fighter squadron of aircraft Messerschmitt Bf 109 air defense of the city of Kotka, one of the tasks of which is to preserve the military airfield of the 34th Fighter Squadron. Almost all aircraft are in working condition. It is the only museum of its kind in the Kymenlaakso region.
It was a long-standing dream to assemble a collection of old aircraft. The first airframe of the Soroka 1 Aero Club was deposited in 1959. In fact, the museum began its activities in August 1992, when the Finnish Air Force transferred the decommissioned Fouga CM 170 Magister FM-43 to the club for storage.
The entire list of aircraft with a description can be found on the website. Many of them are kept in working condition. In some cabins you can look, and in some - and even get inside.
At the airport, you can also take a flight course on a glider, which includes a 15-minute flight. This course costs 50 euros in 2013, for each additional minute - 0.50 euros.
