Kuopio Cathedral

Central Kuopio, near Snellman Park, Finland

Description:

The cathedral in Kuopio is a beautiful architectural monument of the XIX century, and in combination - the main cult attraction of the Finnish city of Kuopio. The cathedral is located in a very picturesque area, attracting a huge number of tourists and believers.

The cathedral was built in Kuopio in 1816. Two architects took part in its construction - the original project of the temple was created by Jacob Riif, and the final appearance of the building was acquired under the leadership of Pehr Palmrut. The cathedral is an expressive example of such an architectural style as neoclassicism.

Currently, the Cathedral in Kuopio belongs to the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church and is listed as an active parish church. However, in addition to believers, this beautiful cathedral attracts quite secular tourists - the architecture of the building captivates with its antiquity, and inside the temple there is a completely special, peaceful atmosphere.
