Orthodox Church Museum

Suomen ortodoksinen kirkkomuseo, Karjalankatu 1, 70110 Kuopio

About the company:

The Orthodox Church Museum is located in the small Finnish city of Kuopio and has an extensive collection of church art and historical artifacts. Despite its relative youth, the museum collection has a large number of items belonging to the XVII-XIX centuries. This is largely due to the museum’s contacts with the Valaam Monastery, which takes an active part in the formation of the exposition.

The Orthodox Church Museum in Kuopio is the largest building of its kind in Western Europe. The collection of the museum was extensively replenished during the Second World War, which allowed to preserve the unique attributes of church life, in particular the Konev Icon of the Mother of God of the XVIII century. From the collected exhibits in 1957, a museum was created, and in 1968 the collection had a permanent room.

Come to the church museum to learn more about church history and culture. You will find many unique exhibits and interesting excursions from museum professionals.
