Description:

Church of St. Lawrence is one of the most remarkable medieval churches in Finland.

The walls of the cathedral are covered with magnificent medieval paintings in the al secco technique (dry plaster). Revered as one of Finland’s most respected churches, St. John’s Church. Lawrence also has an ancient history dating back to at least the XIV century. At that time, the building was partly wooden, and only partly stone, and the full stone decoration received much later, closer to the beginning of the sixteenth century, when the efforts of the local community, headed by Bishop Conrad Bitz, the temple was brought to mind and painted inside with beautiful frescoes. These frescoes, made by a specially invited artist from Sweden, have survived to this day.

The church is open for visits in the summer from 9 to 16 hours, in winter - from 10 to 15 hours.
