Mikkeli Rural Parish Church
Otavankatu 9, Mikkeli, Finland
Description:
The church of the rural parish, located in the western part of the Finnish city of Mikkeli, was built by the Swedish architect Carl Bassi in the early XIX century.
The wooden church with a capacity of up to 2,000 people is the third largest church in Finland. The style of the building, according to the canons of the Lutheran Church, is the intersection of the cross and the square.
At the eastern wall of the temple is an altar depicting the crucifixion of Christ. The image is an exact copy of the painting exhibited in the Louvre by the artist Pierre Pudhoni.
The beautiful facade of the building since 1873 has been preserved by the hands of restorers. The oldest bell in the church was cast in 1752.
Tourists can visit the church for free, but only in the summer.
