Oulu Cathedral
Kirkkokatu, 90100 Oulu, Finland
Description:
Oulu Cathedral is an evangelical Lutheran church built in the late XVIII century. The cathedral was to be a gift to King Gustav III of Sweden. Unfortunately, the original cathedral did not survive and perished in a fire in 1822.
Thanks to the efforts of the builders and chief architect Carl Engel, the cathedral was restored. The doors of the new cathedral, made in the style of neoclassicism, opened before the citizens of Oulu in 1845.
Today, the Cathedral is one of the main tourist attractions of Oulu. Many people come to the cathedral not so much to satisfy their religious needs, but to look at the original interior design - after all, a huge model of the ship hangs right under the ceiling of the cathedral.
