Runeberg Museum

Aleksanterinkatu 3, 06100 Porvoo, Finland

About the company:

The Runeberg Museum, located in the Empire-style part of the Finnish city of Porvoo, was opened in 1880. The order to open the museum was signed by Emperor Alexander II. At that time Finland was an autonomous principality of Russia.

The museum is a living room in which the famous Finnish poet, Johan Ludwig Runeberg, lived and worked for the last 25 years of his life, from 1852 to 1877.

Johan Ludwig Runeberg is known for the series of poems “The Tales of Ensign Stol”, one of whose poems – “Our Land” – became the anthem of Finland.

In the nearby building is a collection of sculptures of the poet’s son, Runenberg Walter, a famous Finnish sculptor, whose most famous works are the monuments of his father and Emperor Alexander II.

The rooms of the house-museum have retained their original appearance, the favorite indoor plants of the poet Frederick’s wife still bloom here.
