Lapland Forest Museum

Metsä museontie 7, Rovaniemi

About the company:

Not far from Rovaniemi, on the shores of Lake Salliarvi, among the mountains covered with forests, in the open air you can find the famous Lapland Forest Museum. Here you will learn not only about the hard life of Finnish loggers at the beginning of the last century, but also visit the houses where workers lived, see the interior decoration of ancient dwellings, photos and tools of woodworkers. This museum is owned by the Lapland Association of the Forest Museum.

The Forest Museum presents forestry traditions that tell about the history of logging and timber alloying in Lapland. Huts and other buildings were brought from different parts of the region. Every subject has a story. The most interesting object is the locomotive, which was used in the first mechanized logging in Finland. Now it is in the fund of the museum.

The forestry building presents interactive games that will be interesting for children.

The museum is open in summer, from Tuesday to Sunday.

At other times, excursions are carried out only by pre-order.
