Mount Linnavuori
Linnavuori, Sulkava, Etela-Savo, Finland
Description:
Above the shore of the Bay of Pisamalahti rises a steep cliff with a height of 55 meters. This is Mount Linnavuori, whose name in Finnish means mountain-fortress. Having overcome the way eight kilometers from Sulkava, walking along the forest path, you find yourself at the foot of the mountain.
The way up begins with a man-made staircase, passing closer to the top into a staircase formed by tree roots and stones. At the top of Mount Linnavuori, stone ramparts will appear – the remains of a fortress of a thousand years ago, protecting the ancient Karelians at that time.
This is one of the ancient buildings of Finland, which is known all over the world. It rises above part of the Saimaa lake system – the Enonvesi water basin. On its water surface at the pier, pleasure boats and ships rock. Standing on top of the mountain, you admire the most beautiful views of the Finnish landscape.
