Savonlinna is a small resort town located among many lakes in eastern Finland. The city attracts tourists primarily with an annual opera festival, which is arranged in the medieval Swedish fortress of Olavinlinna, built on an island near Savonlinna.
Savonlinna Airport is located fifteen kilometers north of the city. Like other airports in Finland, it is operated by Finavia. Built in 1973, the airport today receives about fourteen thousand passengers a year. Passenger traffic peaks during the opera festival. At this time, guests of Savonlinna at the airport are met by live piano music and a singer performing opera arias.
Regular flights from the Finnish capital arrive in Sanvolinna. You can get from the airport to the city by bus company Jä rvi-Suomen taksipalvelu Oy, as well as by taxi. There are car rental points at the airport.
