Kalev Church

Liisanpuisto 1, 33540 Tampere

Description:

Kalev Church is one of the few buildings that looks different from the usual holy places.

The facade of the church, whose height is 18 floors, is made in the modernist style by the architect Reim Pietil (1964). Modern design, a monolithic building with perfectly selected lighting, which emphasizes the light and shadows inside the room, the feeling of infinity and airiness of the hall are distinctive features of Kalev.

It is easy to imagine that such a large building is designed for more than one thousand people. People come here not only to honor the memory of the saints, but also to listen to the church choir, which sounds special in these walls of the church.

Unique is the altar of the cathedral, where the cross is located under the slope. Such bold decisions of the architect not everyone liked, and Kaleva received the popular name - "Grain storage of souls".
